President Biden is truly an American hero. He has expertly and successfully steered the United States and the Free (democratic) World through a time of devisiveness, warmongering, and global climate disruption. For his accomplishments in the last four years he is, and will always remain, our hero.
Although President Biden didn't achieve all his objectives, he will be remembered as one of the most consequential and effective presidents in U.S. history. As regards the extremely difficult, and unresolved, questions of how to secure the border and bring peace to the Middle East, he has consistently applied constructive pressure to make progress towards positive outcomes.
The list of President Biden's other accomplishments is legendary. A sample of highlights follows. Captain, Our Captain!
But as another great, and wise, leader once said: "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven."- which includes a time to work, and a time to rest.
President Biden has pointed out that his many endeavors are not yet complete, and that he would like to have four more years to pursue them. However, like most grand endeavors, they won't be completed in four more years- or fourty. They will, and should be, perpetually ongoing.
With this in mind, we believe President Biden can do the most to achieve his long term goals by helping choose and promote a fresh team of successors to carry on his work.
To make our point that now is great time for President Biden to pass the baton , we'll be hitting the street (literally) from now until the Democratic Convention. The vehicles we'll use to communicate our message are bicycles with the rear tire removed.
Our slogans as we clunk along will be 'Re-Tire the Race; Please, Joe, Now!' and 'Cease and Assist; Please, Joe, Now!'
Our theme song will be 'Turn! Turn! Turn! by the Byrds.
ALL bicyclists are cordially invited to join in, including ANY bicycles with tires on both wheels. PLACARDS ARE ENCOURAGED.
The bicycle rides will take place at 4:15 daily and last about 45 minutes. They will start at the intersection of Market Street and 3rd Street in San Francisco.
First we'll ride up Market Street to the Ferry building,
Then we'll ride down Market Street to the Civic Center- with a brief detour to Union Square.
From the Civic Center, we'll ride back up Market Street to Fourth Street, where the main part of the ride will end.
If participants would like, we can optionally ride down to the China Basin Beach Park (which is shown in the top picture) for refreshments.
...and now, On With the Fun- accompanied by the music of the Byrds... and with three more of the best things about President Joe Biden in mind.
To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time to cease and assist,
I swear it's not too late
Following the announcement of President Biden this morning that he is exiting the race, we were filled with a sense of relief, and of gratitude. There was one last task to accomplish. 'The 'Please, Joe, Now!' placard was replaced with 'Thank You President Biden' and the 'Tireless Ride' was performed one last time.
